Elevate Your Ski and Snowboard Adventures: How to Choose the Best Goggles

Imagine standing atop a snow-covered peak, crisp winter air surrounding you as you prepare to carve down the mountain. Skiing and snowboarding offer an exhilarating sense of speed, freedom, and connection with nature. To fully enjoy each descent, you need the right gear—especially a dependable pair of ski goggles. This guide shares top tips on choosing ski goggles, featuring the SPC X OutdoorMaster Falcon goggles: a collaboration designed to deliver style, protection, and high clarity and contrast performance on the slopes.

Why High-Quality Ski and Snowboard Goggles are Essential?

Ski and snowboard goggles are more than just eye protection—they’re a critical part of your gear that can transform your experience on the mountain. A quality pair of goggles can:

  • Filter Harmful UV Rays: At high altitudes, UV exposure intensifies, and snow reflects sunlight, amplifying its impact. Ski goggles with UV protection guard your eyes and prevent strain.
  • Reduce Glare: Sunlight on snow can be blinding. Goggles help minimize this glare, allowing you to see clearly and stay focused on your path.
  • Resist Fogging: Goggles with anti-fog technology ensure a clear view, even in challenging conditions.

How to Choose the Right Ski Goggles?

When selecting ski goggles, consider factors like lens type, color, fit, and comfort. Here’s what to prioritize:

Lens Shapes

  • Cylindrical Lenses: Curve horizontally, flat vertically; nice looking.
  • Spherical Lenses: Curve both horizontally and vertically; provide better peripheral vision and less distortion but are more expensive.
  • Toric lenses: combining the Cylindrical and Spherical lens options. The cost of making toric-shaped lenses is higher compared to cylindrical and spherical lenses.

Ventilation

To prevent fogging:

  • Double-layered lenses: Create a thermal barrier.
  • Anti-fog coatings: Common in mid to high-end.
  • Layers: 3 layers foam.

Visible Light Transmission (VLT)

  • Lighter tints (yellow, rose): Higher VLT for cloudy days.
  • Darker tints (brown, gray): Lower VLT for sunny days.
  • Clear tints: For night skiing.

Additional Features

  • UV protection: Nearly all goggles offer 100% protection.
  • Polarized lenses: Reduce glare.
  • Photochromic lenses: Adjust tint based on light.
  • Mirrored lenses: Reflect light, reducing overall intake.
  • Interchangeable lenses: For changing conditions.
  • Digital displays: Provide real-time data.

Frames and Fit

  • Material: Flexible polyurethane.
  • Helmet compatibility: Always check for fit with your helmet.
  • Strap adjustments: Ensure easy adjustment.
  • Padding: Should cushion without causing fogging.
  • OTG styles: Fit over prescription glasses comfortably.

Inspiration Behind the SPC X OutdoorMaster Collaboration

At winter dawn, skiers gather on snow-covered peaks, eagerly anticipating a day of adventure. For these extreme sports enthusiasts, SnowboardProCamp (SPC) has teamed up with OutdoorMaster to unveil the all-new goggles. More than just equipment, these goggles embody the spirit of extreme snow sports enthusiasts,. Inspired by early morning gatherings at mountain summits, they connect riders with nature and the thrill of the slopes. The mantra “Ride Bold, Embrace All” encourages skiers to challenge themselves while remaining grounded in the natural world.

Now, let’s hear from Kevin in our Q&A session:

1. Can you share the inspiration behind your collaboration with OutdoorMaster?

"The inspiration behind the Outdoor Master goggle collab is to create a goggle that connects both brands of Outdoor Master and SnowboardProCamp together. We both have very similar goals of making snowboarding accessible to new riders and also helping snowboarder take their riding to the highest level."

2. What aspects did you focus on while designing this collaboration product? What kind of experience do you hope it will provide to users?

SPC emphasizes, “Our primary focus was on designing goggles that showcase SPC’s iconic color scheme, which embodies the bold, resilient, and adventurous spirit of snowboarding. This striking design represents courage and camaraderie, encouraging fearless exploration and confidence on the slopes. I chose the Falcon model for its functionality, featuring high-quality Zeiss lenses for varying light conditions and magnetic lens swaps, all while keeping the price accessible to all level riders. Our goal is for riders to feel equipped for any conditions and proud to represent the SPC brand".

“Our mission was to create a goggle that captures the essence of both brands while offering the features every rider needs. The Falcon goggles were crafted to blend function and style, supporting riders of all skill levels—from beginners to experts.” say by Outdoor Master team.

3. Do you have any special tips for ski and snowboard enthusiasts and the younger generation?

  • Learn at Your Own Pace: “My biggest tip for new snowboarders is to learn at your own pace. This way you enjoy learning and stay safe in the process. It’s also good to remember that everyone was a beginner at some point, so don’t get intimidated by advanced riders. If you’re persistent with leaning and are having fun, then you’ll quickly become a skilled snowboarder.
  • Focus on Enjoyment: Stay focused on enjoying your time and improving gradually. Snowboarding is as much about the journey as it is about reaching the top of the mountain.
  • Prioritize Comfort and Protection: When choosing goggles, prioritize comfort, fit, and protection over aesthetics. The SPC X OutdoorMaster Falcon goggles are an excellent choice for beginners, offering essential protection and high quality goggles without oversending.

4. What qualifications or experiences do you have in the snowboarding field? How many years since you start snowboarding?

I started snowboard when I was fifteen years old. My highschool had a weekly ski club night and I learned to snowboard from one of my classmates. Later I became qualified to teach snowboarding when I passed the level 1 CASI course. My snowboard skill really grew when I moved to Whistler and was surrounded by such high level riders. I learned allot about teaching snowboard by working in Whistlers teenager program (Ride Tribe). During my time teaching I became a level 3 instructor, level 1 Park coach and level 1 Examiner.
